Two day Trek to Bhimashankar

Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyo tirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills.
Place: Bhimashankar
Type: Sahyadri
Endurance: Low
Difficulty: Easy
Activities: Trekking
Cost: Rs.1800.00
 Private transport 2800/-

Description
Bhimashankar
is one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is small (only about 100 sq. km’s), but it is home to a wide variety of animals Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Porcupines, Grey Junglefowls, Wild pig, Hanuman langur, Rhesus macaque and Flying Squirrel etc. The sanctuary is famous as the home of a highly endangered subspecies of the Indian Giant Squirrel – Shekharu (Ratufa indica elphistoni), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra.
Shiva Temple:
The temple of Bhimashankar is around 1200 – 1400 years old and is built on the Hemad Panthi style. There are very beautiful sculptures and paintings on the roof and pillars of the temple. At the front of the temple hangs a huge metal bell cast in 1729. There is also a 15-20 feet high “Deepmala” or lamppost in the outer corridor of the temple. There is also an inscription on stone on this lamppost. It is to be noted that the original name of the river Chandrabhaga at Pandharpur is Bhima. This Bhima River originates at Bhimashankar.
Gupt Bhimashankar:
There is a water stream route going down from the left of the Ram temple. Taking that route, we enter a thick jungle. We reach a temple around 25 minutes through this route. A route going toward the waterfall, left of this temple, leads to the “water sculpted” “Shiva Linga” under this waterfall. This is called the Gupt Bhimashankar. There is a huge waterfall at this place.

#About Sandhan Valley:
Sandhan Valley is a beautiful valley situated in the Western Ghats near Ratangad. Also known as the Valley Of Shadows (as the sun rays do not reach the insides of the major portion of the valley) , this naturally carved valley is 200 feet deep and approximately 2kms long. Located near beautiful Bhandardara region, it is also surrounded by Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai, Ratangad and Ajoba forts.
Sandhan valley is a full descend trek, but the descend is not an easy walk. Completing the trek is more like a solving a boulder puzzle. Throughout the length of the valley we come across boulders ranging in sizes that we need to tackle as we proceed ahead. This trek cannot be done without technical assistance of certified professionals as there are 3 patches where you have to rappel down. A 45ft rappelling patch and 2 more patches where assistance is required only add to the thrill of the exploration.

Sandhan is not recommended for people who are not physically fit/active. We highly recommend to check the photos and video link provided below before registering for the trek.

About Alang fort:
Alang Fort (also Alangad) is a fort in Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the three forts, the others being Madangad and Kulang, in the Kalsubai range of the Western Ghats. They are the most difficult to reach forts in Nasik District. A dense forest cover make thesetreks difficult. These three forts are a little neglected due to very heavy rains in the area and a difficult confusing path to the forts

About Kulang fort:
Being in the same region of the three forts its said climb to Kulag is the most difficult. On the way up climbing we come across patches of roch cut steps. It take 6 hours to reach from Kulanwadi to the fort. On the fortto see around 5 water cisterns. Form here we could also see Mahuli with the 3 pinacles. One can also stay at the caves here.

About Madan fort:
The climb preferred is usually between Madan and Alang. The time taken could around 3-4 hours toreach the step after leaving Kulung fort. over here rock climbing would be required as the wall of the steps was destroyed during the cannon fire. Use of a fixed rope is required. There is one large cave on this fort and 2 water cistern. The top of the fort is a huge plateau. On the fort, there are two caves, a small temple and 11 water cisterns. Remnants of buildings are spread over the fort. Kalasubai, Aundh Fort, Patta and Bitangad are to the east of the fort, Harihar, Trymbakgad and Anjaneri to its north and Harishchandragad,Aajobagad, Khutta (pinnacle), Ratangad and Katrabai to.ADVENTURE AIM Itinerary for trek to Alang Madan and Kulung
